A dusty dawn on Route 68, windows down, and the ridged red walls of the Quebrada de las Conchas slide past like pages in a geology book. By midmorning you’re in Cafayate, where low adobe houses and vineyards meet a sky that seems too big for the valley. The second day pushes north into Humahuaca’s ochre bands and the dizzying climb by 4x4 to Hornocal — the Hill of 14 Colors — a craggy fan of sedimentary stripes carved by tectonic uplift.
