The engine thrums to life in Sofia, and within an hour the city gives way to switchbacks and pine-scented air. By midday you’re threading through secondary roads that climb and fall with the land; rivers dare you to pause at their bridges, and cliffs above Trigrad Gorge loom like old keepers of local legend.
moderate.
5 days.
Moderate fitness: able to handle several hours in the saddle and short walks on uneven terrain
This listing assumes participants have their own motorcycle; confirm with the operator whether rentals or bike transfers are available.
Riders should have intermediate experience and be comfortable with group riding on mountain roads and traffic in towns.
The tour includes 4 nights accommodation and breakfasts; several dinners are provided and visits to wineries are organized but some tastings or extras may be at your expense.
Pick-up is typically arranged from Sofia accommodations at the start; booking asks for pickup details and flight information for coordination.
The route crosses Thracian, Ottoman and Bulgarian Revival-era sites — from Starosel’s tomb complexes to Rila Monastery, an 10th-century spiritual center.
Cave and karst systems are fragile—stick to paths, avoid litter, and respect vineyard rules; local operators encourage low-impact visits and support small rural economies.
BulTrips operates guided outdoor trips and adventures with an emphasis on safety, stewardship, and memorable experiences.
