About

Our three hour Copper Lamp workshop gives you the tools, materials, and inspiration to craft an actual working lamp and light up your life with a funky awesome Edison bulb. If you want visitors to your home to know you made this lamp with your own two hands, you are going to have to find a way to work it into conversation organically, because it isn’t self evident.

This is your new identity. You are the cool friend that makes their own lamps!

Many in the Craftsman Ave community consider the Copper Lamp workshop to be the “gateway” into maker life. Be warned: You are likely to catch the maker fever, and the only cure is MORE WORKSHOPS!

Crafting a Copper Lamp is a delicious taste of dopamine rush from creating with fire.

Yes! Not only will you play with shiny copper pipes and manipulate them into the design of your choice (this is where a childhood spent among building sets will pay dividends), you will also control the power of fire as you solder together the copper joints of your creation.

This is a “beginner” level workshop, meaning that no knowledge of copper pipe fitting and soldering is required, but the sky is the limit for your creative design!

You’ll create the structure of your lamp using copper pipe and fittings which you’ll solder together using a propane torch. Copper pipe is usually used in building construction and plumbing, but it also serves as a perfect material for making a unique and beautiful lamp.

This is one of our most-loved workshops and is the gateway to our “Copper Creations” series. This workshop focuses on building one of three unique lamps designed by our craftspeople. The lamp you build in this workshop will give you the skills and experience to build just about anything using copper pipe and fittings (Wine racks! Shoe racks! Chandeliers!).

Once you pick the design for your lamp, you’ll learn to cut copper pipe to length and connect it using pipe fittings. You’ll then “play with fire” as our craftspeople teach you the art of “sweating a joint”, the open-flame soldering technique used to connect copper pipe and fittings.

Once you’ve assembled the body of your lamp, you’ll put the finishing touches on the lamp’s wiring, install its Edison Bulb, and “flip the switch”, turning on your masterpiece for the first time!
