About

Join Beer Hiking Bavaria author Rich Carbonara for a trip to the brewing heartland: to some of the finest small breweries in the Bamberg surroundings. Though Bamberg is home to some of the greatest breweries anywhere, locals know there are even more only a short trip away.

This route can vary but typically covers 15 km or or 9 miles and involves some moderately steep sections. It passes through some dense green forest and through a few small scenic villages. It also passes by five small breweries with some of the best beer in the vicinity of Bamberg. As a bonus, two of these breweries have very scenic Bierkellers and if the weather is fine, we couldn’t possibly walk by them without stopping in.

Note there is 240m/800 ft ascent & 360m/1200 ft descent over the course of the entire hike.

*Please note that small breweries take vacations even during the summer and sometimes even close for a day on a whim. While not likely, it is possible that a planned stop might be closed.

Included

Public transport to trail head and guided hiking. First beer is on me.

Not included

Food and additional beverages.

What to Expect

-In Bamberg, the meeting point is inside the main entrance of the fairly small Main train station (HBF) at 10:30. Please be prompt as per above.

-Tours go rain or shine and since these are hiking tours, we’ll be outside most of the day. Please bring a small pack to carry the essentials: rain jacket, extra layer, filled water bottle and a temperature appropriate hat. In cooler months, bring something warm just in case the temperature drops. Please wear comfortable weather appropriate walking shoes.

-Please bring enough cash for beer and food as small breweries do not accept credit or bank cards.

Pace Yourself

The route is moderate but long; balance your hiking energy with beer breaks to enjoy the day comfortably.
