About

Delve into Portugal’s fascinating history on an exploration of beautiful Braga. Soak up the historic atmosphere, and walk through manicured gardens and up the stairs of centuries-old pilgrimage sites in Braga.

After you've picked up from your hotel, make your way to Braga, an ancient and elegant old city that’s celebrated as Portugal’s religious capital and has drawn pilgrims for centuries. Head to the Tibaes Monastery from the 10th-century that was one of the richest and most powerful monasteries in the north of Portugal, and the “schoolyard” of a group of architects, master, masons and carpenters, carvers, gilders and sculptors whose active production throughout the Northwest peninsular was linked to the best of what was done in the Portuguese art of the 17th and 18th centuries.

After lunch break explore the city historic center as you meander through narrow lanes that lead to charming squares, and visit the 12th-century Braga Cathedral. Stroll through the Garden of Santa Barbara to see the landscaped grounds flanking the historic Archbishop’s Palace, checking out the ruins of a medieval árcade.

Before the end of the day, and like a cherry on the top of the cake, head to the hillside church and sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, with a ride in the secular and oldest lift/funicular of the world still in operation, moved with the counterbalance of water. or if you feel up to climb its majestic and beautifully designed stairs. In the top of the hill, you’ll have a beautiful view over Braga, before making your way back to the hotel.
