Traffic hums, pigeons wheel overhead, and the city’s brick facades dare you to slow down and listen — not just to history, but to the neighborhoods that carried it.

Birmingham was a national flashpoint during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s–60s; local churches, hotels, and parks served as planning sites, protest stages, and, at times, targets of violence that galvanized broader public action.
Preserve these sites by staying on sidewalks, avoiding graffiti or climbing on memorials, and supporting local museums and historic preservation organizations that maintain markers and public programs.
