Introduce your young children to the joy of being on the river and the majesty of Colorado’s scenery during this half day Colorado rafting trip.
Big Bend is a mild stretch of water on the Arkansas River between Buena Vista and Salida. It passes through farm land, open space, and forests.
Every member of your family will love the mixture of big meandering turns and splashy class II to class III rapids. This section is great if you have young children or are looking for a scenic, mild float.
Want a little more adventure? Paddle your own duckie (inflatable kayak) down Big Bend and test your boating skills! Gear is complimentary on this trip! KODI Rafting also offers wetsuits, booties and splash tops. Wetsuits are farmer johns, and a splash top is a heavy-duty rain jacket designed for the river.
Cool fact: Big Bend is where the Arkansas River rotates from a north-south direction to an east-west direction.
This trip leaves from our Buena Vista outpost.
Avoid cotton, jeans & long pants if possible. Comfortable, quick-drying clothing is best. Any outdoor gear, such as neoprene, polypropylene, wool, or fleece is best. KODI rents wetsuits, booties and splash tops if you would like some extra protection. You’ll also want to bring hats, sunscreen, sunglasses and tennis shoes (that you don’t mind getting wet) or rubber-soled attachable (no flip-flops or Croc's) sport sandals.
KODI Rafting also offers wetsuits, booties and splash tops. Wetsuits are farmer johns, and a splash top is a heavy-duty rain jacket designed for the river. On the Numbers 1/2 Day, wetsuits rent for $5, booties for $3 and splash tops for $3; or you can do the full set up for $10. Gear is recommended on this trip.
Sturdy closed-toe shoes are essential to keep your feet dry and protected during the trip.
Protect yourself from the sun's rays while on the water; polarized sunglasses help reduce glare.
Drink plenty of water before and after the trip to stay energized and prevent dehydration.
Schedule your trip ahead of time, especially during peak summer months, to secure your spot.
Buena Vista has a rich history rooted in mining and Colorado's gold rush era, reflected in the local landmarks and heritage sites.
The river is part of ongoing conservation efforts to preserve Colorado's natural waterways and wildlife habitats, with eco-friendly practices encouraged on all trips.
Wear moisture-wicking clothing to stay comfortable during the splashy ride.
