You crest a ridge and the trail drops into a wide green bowl. The air thins and the lake ahead—pale, glassy, edged with scree—seems to have slid into the cirque overnight. This is Bhrigu Lake: a high-altitude alpine basin that rewards a three-day push from Manali with close views of snow ribs and open meadows where wind and sun take turns shaping the day.

Good aerobic base with experience on sustained uphill hikes; able to carry a daypack and hike 5–8 hours per day.
Typical days include a 4–6 hour trek on Day 1 (drive from Manali to Gulaba then trek to Rola Kholi), a 6–8 hour day to the lake and back on Day 2, and a shorter 3–5 hour return to Gulaba on Day 3.
No technical experience is required, but hikers should have moderate fitness and some experience with multi-day hikes to manage steep climbs and altitude.
Transport from Manali, twin-share camping tents, mattresses and temp-rated sleeping bags, meals (veg/egg), porters/mules for communal gear, and a certified trek leader with first aid training.
Late May through September offers the most stable conditions; spring may have residual snow and winter is generally not recommended without specialized gear.
The Kullu region has long been a seasonal grazing landscape; shepherd routes and local hamlets reflect pastoral practices that shape camping spots and trail use.
Stick to established campsites and avoid disturbing high-altitude vegetation—fragile alpine meadows recover slowly. Carry out all waste and follow guide instructions to minimize footprint.
