This full-day private tour will take you beyond the city for some hiking, wine tasting, and historic exploration in stunning Saxon Switzerland.
Despite its name, Saxon Switzerland (or Sächsische Schweiz) is actually part of Germany. This area forms a section of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, a stunning mountain range that runs along the Elbe River and is known for its fantastic national parks and bizarre-looking rock formations.
On this private tour, you’ll head beyond the city limits for a scenic hike through the area, taking in sweeping views of the surrounding nature. Head out onto the viewing platform of the Bastei Bridge, an otherworldly rock formation created over a million years ago.
You’ll also see historic sites like the sprawling Königstein Fortress, which is one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe. Located in the middle of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the fortress sits high above the charming town of Königstein.
In the afternoon, enjoy a walk through the region’s vineyards. You’ll taste different wines (and stop for a little snack) amidst the towering hills of Saxon Switzerland.
After your wine tasting, you’ll continue onwards to the intriguing Pillnitz Castle and gardens — this site is a prime example of the Chinoiserie style that was popular in Europe in the 18th century. The castle, which was the summer residence of Saxon rulers, boasts a unique combination of baroque and oriental architecture.
At the end of your day tour, your driver and guide will take you back to Dresden, where you’re free to enjoy your evening.
Our Dresden tour guides are more than just guides — they are true ambassadors for the region, who live and breathe local life. With their rich knowledge of Saxon Switzerland geography, culture and history, they’ll lead you on an adventure you won’t forget, sharing everything from their favorite lookout spots to their favorite wines.
