You push off from a muddy bank and the river takes you—cool water carrying the tube beneath limestone ribs, your headlamp cutting a narrow cone through black rock. The cave walls glitter with mineral crystals and the jungle above hums with distant birdcalls; every bend in the passage feels like entering a different chapter of the underground world.
moderate.
7 hours.
Moderate aerobic fitness; able to hike ~45 minutes on uneven jungle trail and comfortable with basic water exposure.
Children are allowed but must be accompanied by an adult; there is a minimum height requirement (48 inches) and guides make safety decisions case-by-case.
Basic comfort in water is required; lifevests are provided and the current does most of the work, but swimmers should be able to hold themselves in a tube and assist getting in or out.
Helmets, headlamps, inner tubes, lifevests, a riverside picnic lunch, national park fees and guiding services are included.
Operators run in most weather but may cancel for heavy rain or unsafe river conditions; you can receive a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours prior or if the operator cancels for weather.
Many Belizean cave systems were used by the Maya for ritual purposes; guides will point out geological features and cultural interpretations along the trip.
Stick to marked paths, avoid touching delicate cave formations, and don’t use sunscreen or insect repellent in the water to protect cave ecosystems.
