The sun hits the river first, turning the French Broad into a slow-moving ribbon of silver as groups of friends clip their deluxe tubes together and push off from the grassy launch. Conversation drifts; the current takes the lead. Over the next two to three hours you’ll float under low bridges, past exposed rock bars and the occasional heron that watches your passage with deliberate calm.
