The road climbs out of Bali’s heat and into a different air—cool, sharp and quick to skim the skin. Morning mists hang low over rice terraces as a private car threads mountain switchbacks toward Nungnung Waterfall; by the time you step out, the forest seems to breathe around you. The waterfall calls from a narrow gorge, a white ribbon forcing the canyon to the edges. Later the tour eases onto the glassy surface of Lake Bratan, where Ulun Danu Beratan perches with its tiered pagodas reflecting like ink on water.
