What is involved?

This is a walking activity through Newcastle. No public transport will be involved. The app will lead you to various locations where you will solve puzzles and challenges, take photos, and have a whole lot of fun.

The outdoor game features characters from Beano comic. The game is accessed via QR codes, which we send to you following your booking and will require you to download the app onto your phone.

How long is the route?

On average, the routes are 2.5 – 3 miles. We estimate that a family with younger children should complete the route in around 90 minutes – 2 hours. There is no time limit on the day of your ticket – you can stop for as long between stages as you like.

What are the puzzles like?

The puzzles are designed to be fairly easy so that children, aged around 6-10, are kept occupied along the route.

However, the game can be played by anyone over the age of 4 – as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult.

Is the game wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the terrain is generally flat, with one small incline. Steps are not used as part of the game.

What happens if we get stuck on a clue?

Hints and clues are provided to help you on your way if you get stuck; but I doubt smarty pants like you will need clues! BRAINY BUNCH!

Where does it start and finish?

Start: Victorian Bandstand, Exhibition Park End: Sir Bobby Robson Statue, Strawberry Place

How do I download the app?

Full instructions will be included in your confirmation email

Is the game against the clock?

No, there is no time limit on this one; it’s about how many points you accumulate. The more clues you need, the fewer points you are awarded.

Can I play anytime?

When you book your tickets, you will choose a specific date to play the game.

You are free to play at any time during that day, however, it is recommended to take part during daylight hours.

Do I need to do anything special to my phone to let me play the game?

You will need to download the app, and the game on the app.

We recommend that you download the app and the game via wifi at home, so you aren’t using any data when playing. If you do this, you will not need signal or data when playing.

When asked, you will need to allow the app to access your location for guided route reasons; the app uses your location at certain points within the game to direct you to the next place. If the app is unable to do this, the game won’t work. You can delete the app once you have finished playing the game.

We recommend also bringing a backup battery/power bank in case your phone battery runs low.

Do I need to wear anything special?

Not really. You will be outside in the U.K., so it’s always recommended to dress according to the weather forecast, and where possible to bring a raincoat/waterproof/umbrella with you just in case the heavens open!

What if I have a problem on the day?

Any on-the-day support is given in the app through helpful hints and clues should you need them.

When you arrive at the starting point, open the app and the downloaded game, and start playing!

If you haven’t downloaded the game at home, you will need to use your data to download the game at the starting point. The download is around 200MB – so if you don’t do this on wifi, you may be charged by your network provider, subject to any allowances you have or not.

What if I have a problem before I play?

With any questions, please contact info@outdoorgamingcompany.com.

Is it COVID Secure?

Yes, the game is outdoors and can form part of your daily exercise.

What to bring

A fully charged phone with the app and your adventure already downloaded. We recommend also bringing a backup battery/power bank in case your phone battery runs low. Don’t forget it is an outdoor game, so weather appropriate clothing for the day is important too!
