The ride starts where the jungle breathes down to the shoreline: a gravel track threads between thick shrubs and coconut palms, the air humid and salt-tinged. Horses wait saddled, ears flicking, and you push off toward Bergantín Beach where surf dares to kiss the hooves. There’s a pause for photos with turquoise water as a backdrop, then a stretch along hard-packed sand that offers steady footing and wide views of the Atlantic.
easy.
2–2.5 hours.
Light fitness required—able to mount/dismount and sit in the saddle for about two hours; no prior experience needed.
Swimming with the horse is offered when ocean and stream conditions are safe; the guide will assess surf and currents and may decline the swim for safety.
The operator collects weight and age during booking; while the tour accepts a wide range of riders, specific limits (for safety) should be confirmed with the provider when booking.
Pickups are provided from many Puerto Plata-area hotels, but cruise-ship guests and those from Sosúa or Cabarete usually must arrange their own transport to Rancho Salvaje Lorilar.
The tour offers a full refund if canceled at least 24 hours before departure; weather cancellations may offer an alternative date or full refund.
Puerto Plata developed as an early colonial port and later a hub for sugar and fishing; the coast still reflects its maritime heritage in small beachside bars and boat traffic.
Beach and nearshore reef habitats are sensitive—stick to marked access points, avoid trampling dunes and follow guides’ instructions to reduce erosion and disturbance.
