No Experience Required

Located on the coastal stretch of Noord-Holland, Zandvoort is a vibrant seaside town famed for its sandy beaches and Atlantic breezes. Among its most compelling outdoor experiences is the "Jut mee en Ontmoet onze Jutters" beach cleanup expedition — a hands-on conservation trip that invites travelers and locals alike to engage directly with the environment shaping this region. This unique activity not only promotes sustainability but becomes an unforgettable chance to witness the intricate relationship between coastal life and human impact firsthand.

"Jut mee" translates to "come beachcombing," but this beachcombing has a vital purpose beyond collecting seashells or driftwood: participants gather plastic debris and marine litter left by the tides. Hosted by passionate volunteers at the Jut Unit in Zandvoort, this excursion runs every Tuesday through Friday morning from 9:15 to 11:30, making it a perfect way to start a day with intention and community spirit. The group meets near the shoreline where fresh ocean air mixes with the scent of wet sand, setting the stage for an immersive outdoor experience.

This activity is tailored for all ages, making it especially welcoming to families. Children join for free when accompanied by an adult, encouraging early education about environmental stewardship. Beyond just picking up trash, attendees enjoy fresh coffee and connect with other nature lovers, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere. Alongside collecting debris, participants learn about the devastating impact plastic pollution has on marine ecosystems and the initiatives underway to combat it, adding depth to the outing.

What makes this beach cleanup truly stand out is its integration with the local community and environment. Zandvoort’s beaches experience a constant battle between pristine natural beauty and the pressures of tourism and urban life. By joining the Jutters, you become part of a grassroots movement keeping this coastline clean and resilient. The unique sand formations and coastal dunes, alongside seabird nesting grounds, gain protection through these ongoing efforts, amplifying the importance of each participant’s contribution.

Visitors can easily combine this responsible outdoor adventure with the nearby town’s welcoming cafes, cycling paths, and seaside promenades — making for a fulfilling day including both activity and relaxation. Whether you’re a resident or a traveler passing through, "Jut mee en Ontmoet onze Jutters" is a memorable way to engage with one of the Netherlands’ cherished coastal landscapes while helping preserve its future.

About Juttersgeluk

Juttersgeluk is a Zandvoort‑based beach cleanup organisation that runs guided coastal cleanups, educational walks, and community events focused on reducing plastic pollution. Operating on the beaches of Zandvoort in Noord‑Holland, Juttersgeluk brings together volunteers, families, young adults and businesses to collect litter, sort findings and learn about the causes and solutions to the plastic soup.

Programs include public cleanup days, a youth‑focused Green Escape for ages 16–30, family‑friendly excursions where children join free with a paying adult, and bespoke corporate outings (Jouw eigen Jutevenement) that combine team building with environmental action. One scheduled event is the Kennemer Clean Up Day on Thursday 18 September 2025, which is advertised as a day to learn, collect and see how plastic can be transformed into circular products.

Juttersgeluk emphasises hands‑on education: participants join guided beach walks, practice litter sorting, and hear about circular reuse of collected materials. Activities are led by volunteers and organisers who focus on safe, structured cleanups suited to different groups. The organisation is presented as community‑oriented and practical, with events designed to be both rewarding and memorable for participants of various ages and group types.
