A chill wind pushes across the pale turquoise of Lake Louise as the tour vans pull into the lot; mountain faces sharpen against a clear Alberta sky and the first photo stops begin. The day moves like a rope of converging views: Moraine Lake’s glacial color (seasonal and often closed in winter), the reflective calm of Emerald Lake in Yoho, and the stair-stepped waterfalls at Johnston’s Canyon where the canyon dares you to climb a little higher for the best vantage.
