You arrive by road as the highway unwinds from Hubli, the landscape shifting from scrubby plains into the rising green ribs of the Western Ghats. Sandstone cliffs at Badami catch late light and Agastya Lake sits cool beneath carved cave temples; deeper west, the forested slopes of Anshi press close and the Kali River dares you with its whitewater.
