Dawn breaks over a placid ribbon of water and a wooden boat pushes off into mist; the sound of paddles and distant calls of kingfishers are the first signs of waking life on Ba Be Lake. Over three days you move between forest, river and karst cliffs — trekking soft jungle trails to Pac Ngoi, pedaling past rice terraces and plunging into cool cascades at Silk Waterfall, then letting the boat carry you through the 300 m tunnel of Puong Cave.
