You paddle through two hours of varied rapids—short, punchy waves that demand timing more than brute strength—while the guide calls lines and steady hands keep the boat moving. Between rapids the river relaxes into wide pools framed by volcanic rock and terraced rice slopes, giving time to breathe and watch kingfishers dart.
