About This Adventure

Experience an engaging, hands-on aviation activity at the museum, where students explore flight principles through interactive lessons tailored for different age groups. With all materials provided, groups of 3-4 will collaborate for 45 minutes, making learning about flight history and mechanics both fun and memorable.

Museum staff will lead students in a hands-on activity. Teachers can use lessons uploaded to our website as pre- and post-activities that align with the activity at the museum. All materials will be provided for the museum activity. These are designed to be completed in groups of 3-4 and take 45 minutes from start to finish. Limit 35 students per time slot. Classes are not offered on Sundays or Mondays.

About

Aviation Class Topics:

Things That Fly! – (PreK-3rd Grade) Students discuss different things that can fly see how hot air balloons, helicopters, gliders, and rockets all fly differently.

Four Forces of Flight - (4th-9th Grade) Students discuss forces, Newton’s Laws of Motion, and flight. They will explore each of the four forces involved in flight and then use that knowledge to build a straw and paper glider.

Tuskegee Airmen- (7th- 12th Grade) Students get up close to a P-51 Mustang as they discuss the history of the Tuskegee Airmen. They will then explore how principles of flight from WWII have implications in modern space exploration in a hands-on activity.

Chaperone Ratios

  • Grade Pre-K -3rd: 1 chaperone per 5 students
  • Grade 4th -12th : 1 chaperone per 10 students

Extra chaperones are not permitted in the class due to space limitations of the classroom. They will need to wait in outside the classroom during the class.

The total number of chaperones may not be greater than the number of youth.

If you have a student who needs one on one assistance and that will push you over the chaperone ratio, please email to discuss options.

Teachers are considered chaperones and must be included in the chaperone ratio count!

Additional Information

  • Pima Air and Space Museum limits the number of 6th-12th grade students to 50 per group per day. If you have more than 50 middle/high school students in your group, you will need to book your visit over multiple days. Pre-K-5th grade are limited to 150 per day. Both groups need to follow the minimum chaperone ratio.
  • Due to an increase in incidents involving theft and damage to museum property, students may not bring backpacks onto museum grounds. All student bags must be left on the bus; the museum will not store bags. Teachers and chaperones are allowed one bag each.
  • Groups need to have their booking completed a minimum of 7 days prior to their visit. If you are trying to book a visit with less than 7 days notice, you will not be able to book via the online booking system and regular admission price will apply to your group.
  • Please note that we do check each school group booking and will contact you if we find any discrepancy with your booking and fees.

Cancel Policy

We have a strict 48-hour written cancellation policy. Groups who cancel a minimum of 48 hours in advance will be refunded their full admission cost. Groups that cancel less than 48 hours in advance will not be subject to a refund.
