Experience pony camps, beach gallops, eco-friendly Milieujutten, and evening huifkar rides from Hoorn and Harlingen.
Huifkarbedrijf Terpstra is a family-run equestrian and carriage company based in Hoorn, Friesland, organizing horse-drawn and horseback experiences to and on Terschelling.
The business operates a range of guided trips including pony camps, environmental beach cleanups, evening rides with campfires, and skill-leveled horseback excursions for beginners to experienced riders. Services include a five-day pony camp departing from Harlingen, two-hour ecological Milieujutten trips to the beach, romantic evening huifkar rides with accordion music, short three-hour nature tours through forests and dunes, and beachbound jutterstocht carriage rides. Riders can also reserve evening beach rides te paard, half-advanced and advanced three-hour outside rides, beginner-friendly 1.5 hour outings, family-focused wandelpony walks, and tailored summer swims or longer polder routes for experienced riders.
Huifkarbedrijf Terpstra emphasizes safety by matching trips to rider experience and requiring prior experience for high-speed beach rides. The company works with local guides familiar with Terschelling’s landscape and cultural stories, and coordinates logistics from Hoorn and Harlingen departure points. Booking and reservations are required for many trips, ensuring small group sizes and personalised attention. Visitors choose Huifkarbedrijf Terpstra for authentic, nature-centred equestrian experiences, clear trip descriptions, and a focus on environmental stewardship during beach cleanups. Trip sizes and schedules vary by season; details and exact departure points are provided at booking. Prices, safety requirements, and reservation policies are available on request. Groups can request custom itineraries.
“Every outing is organized with local river knowledge, basic safety instruction, and equipment checks before departure.”
