The engine thumps to life and a plume of red dust follows as riders peel away from the briefing area, into 50 acres of mixed forest and rocky outcrops. Tall palms and scrub give way to jagged slabs of granite; the trail narrows, rocks bite at the suspension, and the path climbs toward a wide ledge known locally as Elephant Rock. From that lookout the western plains open, and on a clear day the skyline of Colombo edges the horizon.
