The walking is generally moderate — village paths and short hill sections rather than technical mountaineering; those with serious heart conditions are advised to consult a doctor.
The High Atlas has been home to Amazigh (Berber) communities for centuries; Imlil has long been a gateway village for mountaineers aiming for Toubkal.
Toubkal’s trails are sensitive to erosion and litter; stick to marked paths, pack out waste and support local cooperatives to contribute directly to the community.
