The minivan eases out of Marrakech and the city’s heat peels away as the High Atlas rises, black ridgelines cutting against the morning sky. By mid-morning the group unloads in a small village; river water hurries past, pushing the valley forward while terraced orchards hold onto every inch of soil. Hikers set off along worn mule tracks, the trail switching through walnut groves and past Berber farmhouses until a rooftop terrace opens onto a wide sweep of the valley.
