Adventure tips

Bring layered clothingVouraikos Gorge and mountain sites can be several degrees cooler than Athens—pack a windbreaker or light fleece for morning and afternoon changes.

Stairs and uneven groundMega Spilaio and museum exhibits involve stairs and uneven surfaces—use sturdy footwear and allow extra time for moving between levels.

Train photo spotsSit on the right side heading up from Diakopto for the best canyon views; mornings offer softer light and fewer reflections in the windows.

Respect memorial sitesThe Kalavryta Holocaust Museum is a solemn place—photograph sparingly and speak quietly inside exhibits out of respect.

Recommended gear

Sturdy walking shoes: Provides traction on monastery steps, cobbled streets and short uneven trails.
Light waterproof jacket: Protects against canyon spray and sudden mountain showers in spring and fall.
Reusable water bottle: Reduces plastic use and keeps you hydrated during the long day—refill where possible.
Camera with polarizing filter: Helps cut glare in the gorge and improves contrast on limestone cliffs and vineyard scenes.
