You step off the sightseeing bus into a crisp Hokkaido morning and feel the air tighten with cold and curiosity. Paths slope gently toward glass-fronted enclosures where polar bears pace behind aquariums and penguins slice through water as if pulled by a current. The design here pushes visitors close without forcing contact — observation tunnels, underwater windows and elevated walkways arrange encounters so animals act, and you watch.
