Course Description

ASA 114: Cruising Catamaran is a specialized course designed for sailors looking to master the unique skills and knowledge required to confidently handle and navigate cruising catamarans. Building upon the foundation of previous ASA certifications, this course focuses on the nuances of multihull vessels, emphasizing the stability, speed, and maneuverability that catamarans offer. Participants will learn advanced techniques for sail trim, reefing, and anchoring specific to catamarans, as well as safety procedures and navigation in various conditions. Through hands-on experience and expert instruction, students will gain the expertise needed to safely operate and charter cruising catamarans, making it an essential step for those looking to explore the world's waters aboard these modern and versatile vessels. ASA 114 opens the door to exciting and comfortable catamaran cruising adventures, appealing to both experienced sailors and those new to the world of multihulls.

All course materials are provided including ASA 114 book and study guide. It is recommended to review your book prior to attending class.

By the completion of the course, students will have:

  • Learned to skipper an auxiliary-powered sailing cruising catamaran of approximately 30-45′ feet in length during a multi-day liveaboard cruise upon inland or coastal waters in moderate to heavy winds (up to 30 knots) and sea conditions.
