Course fee does NOT include book, workbook, practice chart, divider and plotter. The list of supplies will be sent to student's upon registration to purchase in advance of class.
3 days in classroom 1 week home practice
Reading chart symbols, use of the U.S. Coast Guard navigation publication tables, light list, notice to mariners, chart navigation, calculating DEAD RECKONING (DR) positions, 3 bearing fixes, running fixes, set and drift computations, correcting and uncorrecting compass headings, calculating tides and current
-Able to demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters.
-The course material is presented over the 2 day period with sample problems solved in class. It is then recommended that students take a week to do practice problems (approx. 50) on their own. The 3rd day will be conducted a week after for review & testing. All course days will run 9-4pm schedule
-This ASA-certified course is more in depth than the USCG navigation module. Be prepared to study outside of class.
No ASA prerequisites, however SailTime HIGHLY recommends a basic understanding of nautical charts and experience reading a compass.
