You meet your guide in Lisbon and, as the city recedes, the Tagus widens and the road starts climbing toward the Arrábida range. The van pauses at the Cristo Rei overlook; the river and city lie spread below while the Atlantic pulls the horizon taut. Driving through cork oak and low maquis, the limestone ridges of Arrábida rise to roughly 500 meters, their slopes opening onto stony coves and the long sweep of the Tróia peninsula.
