The raft drops forward, water biting at the bow as the river narrows and the rainforest leans in like a watching crowd. Sun hits the spray; you paddle together, commands from the guide cutting through birdsong. For almost two hours you'll work through a sequence of Class II–IV rapids carved into volcanic rock downstream from Arenal.

Wear quick-dry clothes and secure footwear, bring sunscreen, a hat you can strap, and any personal medications; the operator supplies helmet, life vest and paddles.
Tours can be canceled if conditions make the river unsafe; the operator’s policy allows refunds for cancellations at least 24 hours prior and cancels for severe weather.
Arenal’s 1968 eruption dramatically altered river courses and local settlement patterns; the volcano’s activity shaped the channels you raft today.
Choose operators who practice leave-no-trace river protocols and limit single-use plastics; river health depends on reduced runoff and careful waste management.
