Operated by Faro Travel Costa Rica · La Fortuna, Alajuela
You meet your guide in La Fortuna before dawn, coffee cooling in Styrofoam cups while the Arenal cone fills the eastern sky. The van carves a ribbon of road through farmland and low rainforest; the river ahead hisses and dares you as it slices granite and volcanic ash into steep, green-walled channels.

6 hours.
Moderate fitness: comfortable scrambling, short technical descents, and basic swimming ability
Minimum age is 10 years old; children must be able to follow guide instructions and be comfortable in the water.
The tour requires a moderate level of fitness—participants will rappel, scramble, jump into pools, and paddle through Class II–III rapids.
No prior experience required—professional guides provide instruction and manage safety for both rappels and rafting.
Operators may cancel for heavy rain or unsafe river conditions; the booking states weather-based cancellations are possible and refunds follow the provider policy.
Arenal’s repeated eruptions in the 1960s–2010s reshaped the local topography, turning former valleys into lava-scarred slopes and creating the steep canyons the tour explores today.
Operators emphasize leave-no-trace practices and limit river-side impacts—use biodegradable sunscreen, avoid disturbing wildlife, and pack out trash to protect aquatic habitats.
Faro Travel Costa Rica operates guided outdoor trips and adventures with an emphasis on safety, stewardship, and memorable experiences.
