Light walking ability—suitable for most adults and older children able to walk uneven ground
The tour lasts about 90 minutes and covers a short, slow-paced route through secondary forest optimized for sightings rather than distance; expect under 2 miles of walking at a relaxed pace.
Guides are skilled at locating sloths and the tour is designed to maximize encounters, but wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed — the small-group format improves chances significantly.
The walk is rated easy and suitable for most fitness levels; however, it uses natural trails with roots and slight unevenness, so wheelchair access may be limited despite accessible policies—check with the operator for specifics.
Flash photography and loud noises are discouraged to avoid disturbing animals; guides will advise on respectful viewing and the best photographic practices.
The Arenal area was reshaped by volcanic activity over the past centuries; private reserves on the volcano’s flanks protect regrowth forests on former lava and ash deposits.
Small-group, low-impact tours help reduce disturbance and fund local conservation; follow guide instructions, stick to trails and avoid touching wildlife to minimize your footprint.
