A low mountain mist hangs over the trail as the tour begins — the Arenal massif watching from across the lake while a guide maps the day. Walks cut across black, jagged older lava flows, the rock still cold beneath the canopy that frames occasional openings to a broad view of Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal. Later the trail drops into a green pocket where Rio Fortuna dares you with a silver ribbon, ending at a thunderous 60–70m plunge where stairways lead down to a swimming pool carved from the mountain run-off.
