Embark on a captivating 2.5-hour guided tour of Rathcroghan, where history and myth intertwine. Led by expert archaeologists, uncover the secrets of Connacht’s Sacred Capital through a blend of archaeology and legend.
To truly appreciate the wealth of history, archaeology, legend and myth surrounding Rathcroghan, visitors are taken on a guided tour which begins in Medieval Tulsk, where we will introduce you to Tulsk Fort and Priory. From here visitors journey back in time to the Neolithic Period, Bronze Age and Iron Age with a visit to Rathcroghan Mound and the surrounding monuments.
The Rathcroghan guided tour continues to Oweynagat, the ‘Gate to Hell’, with a journey to the Irish Otherworld. Join one of our experienced archaeologists as they guide you through this uniquely preserved historic landscape, where Connacht’s Sacred Capital is revealed, through a combination of scientific research and Medieval literature.
*** Please note that due to a Health & Safety review of our guided activities at the cave, we are currently only providing restricted access into the entrance passageway of Oweynagat.
Your Rathcroghan Guided Tour ticket also includes entry to the Rathcroghan Museum and Interpretive Rooms.
The tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Please be advised that all site tours are weather dependent and may be cancelled due to inclement conditions.
A full refund will be provided in these cases. Please dress appropriately in outdoor clothing. Cave entry requires suitable attire, as it is very wet and muddy. To partake in the tour, you will require your own motor transportation.
The site involves walking on uneven, archaeological terrain—comfortable, closed-toe shoes are recommended.
