For your comfort, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad recommends that you consider the following when planning your trip:
COACHES ARE NOT HEATED.
Parlor cars have limited seating, so plan to arrive early to get the best spots with optimal views.
The open-air Gondola provides spectacular photo opportunities, so a zoom lens helps capture distant wildlife and landscapes.
Temperatures can vary significantly during the ride, especially in the open-air car, so layering helps keep you comfortable.
Since lunch is provided on the train, there are few dining options in Antonito or Chama, so plan accordingly.
This narrow-gauge railroad was built in the late 19th century to connect mining towns, preserving part of the rich railroad history of the American West.
The railroad operates with careful respect for the natural environment, preserving historic equipment while minimizing ecological impact on the fragile mountain habitats.
Regulate comfort as temperatures can shift during the ride and weather changes.
Capture distant wildlife and stunning landscape photography from the gondola.
Protect yourself from strong sun exposure, especially on the open-air car.
