The day begins on a concrete quay in Bai Chay; you step up wooden gangways onto a white superstructure where teak decks and a two-floor sundeck open onto a drift of limestone towers. As the Ambassador slips away, limestones rise from grey-green water and dare you to measure them with your eyes — jagged cliffs, hidden coves, and silhouettes of seabirds.
