All-Day Inland Diving at Public Dive Pass in Bethlehem, PA

On a clear Thursday morning in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, certified divers trade the Lehigh Valley’s industrial skyline for a different kind of vertical: an inland drop into open freshwater. The Public Dive Pass grants divers full-day access to the USA’s #1 inland diving facility—available to the public Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (out of the water by 3 p.m.)—for focused, uninterrupted diving time close to urban centers. This is a day designed for certified divers who want space to practice skills, shoot underwater photography, or simply log long bottom times. Entry requires a certification card at the gate, and all divers must dive in pairs; solo dives are not permitted. The site welcomes ages 10 and up but does not admit children under ten. Divers bring their own gear, so rinse and inspect regulators, confirm tank fills, and plan for multiple dives with surface intervals during the seven-hour window. The experience is defined less by fanciful scenery and more by reliable conditions: still, inland freshwater that minimizes surge and current, clear enough for close teamwork and technical drills. Expect deep-water sections and controlled shallow zones for entry and exit, making it practical for training, buoyancy work, and equipment checks. For photographers the calm water provides stable conditions for shooting subjects and practicing lighting techniques. What makes this facility a standout in the local outdoor-recreation mix is accessibility. Located in Bethlehem, it connects urban travelers and weekend divers to a managed, safety-focused environment without a long drive to the coast. The site’s strong safety rules—mandatory buddy pairs and proof of certification—keep the focus on responsible diving. For visitors new to the area, Bethlehem’s industrial heritage, including its steel-era legacy, sits nearby, offering a distinct contrast between regional history and modern recreation. Practical advice: arrive early for check-in, carry paper or digital proof of certification, bring complete personal gear and spare O-rings, and coordinate dive plans with your buddy before entering. There’s no rental gear on site, so plan fills and gas mixes ahead. Respect posted rules and staff directions; they maintain an organized windowed schedule that keeps all divers safe and the day flowing. The Public Dive Pass, listed online under the shortname lakehydra, is bookable via the provider’s referral link. It’s a rare chance to spend a long, purposeful day underwater at a facility designed to support skills, photos, and serious practice within reach of Bethlehem and the broader Lehigh Valley. Plan transportation and parking in advance, bring sun protection for surface intervals, and notify staff of any medical conditions; the team enforces safety and can advise on local services, including compressor fills and nearby accommodations in Bethlehem for divers traveling from out of town; plan ahead.
