You lift off just before dawn, the basket trembling under your feet as propane hisses and the envelope breathes open. The Sandia Mountains blunt the eastern horizon while the Rio Grande threads below like a dark ribbon daring you to follow. Cold air slips through your layers; the sun peels orange across mesas and city blocks, and the pilot’s calm voice charts the day’s path.
