Adventure tips

Hydrate for the high desertBring refillable water bottles—altitude and dry air make dehydration easy, especially for children.

Sun protection is non-negotiableWide-brim hats and sunscreen are useful year-round due to strong UV at altitude.

Choose cooler hoursBook morning or late-afternoon slots in summer to avoid mid-day heat and make outdoor stops more pleasant.

Stroller and accessibilityOld Town and parks are generally flat and stroller-friendly, but cobblestones can be bumpy—consider a robust stroller or carrier.

Recommended gear

Comfortable walking shoes: Flat, supportive shoes keep kids and adults comfortable on mixed pavement and plaza surfaces.
Refillable water bottle: Helps manage hydration in Albuquerque’s dry climate between museum stops.
Sun hat and sunscreen: High desert UV makes sun protection important, even in cooler months.
Light layered jacket: A wind layer is useful near the river and in the evening when temps drop.
