The late afternoon sun carves the dunes into long, honeyed ridges as a 4x4 eases off the highway and into Al Avir’s open sand sea. Salt-bright heat gives way to a cooling wind; the vehicle pitches and rolls as dune bashing begins, and the desert seems to push back and then surrender to the convoy. Later, a camel strolls by at sunset, patient and sure, offering a slow-motion view of the horizon before you step into a low-lit Bedouin camp where coffee steams and soft rugs wait.
