Off the southern tip of Florida, in Key West, the Advanced Adventurer Course packs five open-water specialty dives into a program that gets you deeper into local reefs and wrecks. Based in Key West, Florida, this multi-day course combines online e-learning, pool practice, and five instructor-led open-water dives to introduce Navigation, Deep, Perfect Buoyancy and three more specialties of your choice.
The water around Key West sits atop the Florida Keys barrier reef, the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States. You’ll move through coral pinnacles, across sand channels, and past steel and concrete wrecks that have become artificial reefs. Common dive subjects here include stony corals, brain coral, parrotfish, grouper, nurse sharks, and sea turtles; visibility often makes compact reef scenes sing in photographs. Boat trips for the training dives are booked separately, and the course limits groups to six students for hands-on instruction.
The course structure is straightforward: complete e-learning before arrival, meet your SSI instructor for confined-water skills in a pool, then complete five open water training dives. Day one typically covers Navigation and Deep; day two lets you sample Perfect Buoyancy plus two other specialties such as Wreck, Night, Fish ID, Coral ID or Nitrox. That spread gives you exposure to advanced skills without committing to full specialty certifications, and credits toward later specialty courses.
