A dusty Land Cruiser creaks into dawn as thousands of hooves blur the horizon — the Serengeti is waking. Over nine days you move from Arusha’s highland plains into the swelling grasslands of Tarangire, the wide horizons of Seronera, the remote Lobo and northern corridors, and finally down into the bowl of Ngorongoro.
easy.
9 days.
Suitable for most fitness levels; involves long hours in a vehicle and short walks at lodges and viewpoints.
July to November, when herds move north toward the Mara River; exact timing varies year to year so itineraries target the northern Serengeti corridor.
Consult a travel clinic before departure — yellow fever proof may be requested if coming from affected countries and anti-malarial pills are commonly recommended.
Expect full-day game drives (4–8 hours) in a 4x4 safari vehicle with pop-up roof for viewing; roads are unpaved and can be bumpy.
Families are welcome though infants must sit on laps per supplier policy; the trip has limited wheelchair access and uneven terrain at viewpoints.
The migration is a millennia-old cycle driven by seasonal rains; Ngorongoro’s caldera formed from a volcanic collapse roughly three million years ago.
Tanzania’s parks use entrance fees and regulated concessions to fund anti-poaching and community projects; respect park rules and local Maasai lands to minimize impact.
