Local insights

Wildlife

Griffon vulture circling the Meteora cliffs
Peregrine falcon or kestrels hunting near rocky outcrops

History

The route links Bronze Age Mycenae, the Pan‑Hellenic sanctuary at Delphi—home to the famous oracle—and the Byzantine and post‑Byzantine monasteries of Meteora perched on erosion‑carved sandstone pillars.

Conservation

Sites manage visitor flow and preservation—stay on marked paths, follow monastery rules, and avoid feeding wildlife; limiting drone use and litter preserves fragile ruins and cliff ecosystems.
