Berlin’s lake country is often overlooked amid its bustling urban landscape, but A Friend in Berlin unlocks an extraordinary outdoor experience that reveals the city’s hidden watery wilds. Their 7-Lake Boat Tour is a private, six-hour journey across seven distinct lakes and waterways on the outskirts of Berlin, painting a vivid picture of the region’s natural beauty and complex history. From the moment your guide picks you up, the day sets a relaxed yet engaging tone. Riding the train or, optionally, a taxi to Wannsee, you meet Captain Udo and step aboard a private boat fitted for up to eight guests.
As the boat slips into the calm waters of Small Wannsee and onward to Pohlesee and Griebnitzsee, the lush green banks and shimmering lake surfaces contrast sharply with the city’s concrete heart. You’ll pass Tiefensee, Heilige See, and enter the Havel River before returning to Great Wannsee. Along the way, landmarks like the Glienicke Bridge—famously known as the "Spy Bridge"—the stately Babelsberg Castle, and the historic Wannsee Villa punctuate the natural scenery with stories of Cold War espionage, royal retreats, and dramatic episodes from 20th century Europe.
This tour thrives in its ability to fuse relaxation, nature, and deep cultural narratives. Guests enjoy the option to swim in the lakes, sip cold drinks onboard, and even take the helm under Captain Udo’s guidance. The multilingual guide enriches the journey with detailed histories and local insights, crafting an accessible yet immersive adventure.
For outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike, this trip stands out in Berlin’s diverse outdoor portfolio, revealing a side often missed by conventional tours. Whether you crave a peaceful paddle, a splash in pristine waters, or an intimate look at layered histories, A Friend in Berlin’s 7-Lake Boat Tour offers a unique window into the capital’s quietly wild edge.
