You push off from a pebbled shore and the river immediately begins to pull you downstream—the current a living thing that edges you between shadowed cliffs and forested slopes. Over six days you move from cool karst rivers in the highlands to the open, breath-wide Adriatic: Kupa’s long bends, Mrežnica’s crystalline cascades, Zrmanja’s dramatic canyon, and the sun-browned bays around Rab.
