Embark on an unforgettable 1.5 to 2-hour immersive field trip that blends laboratory learning with outdoor exploration. Choose from exciting activities like squid dissection, biodiversity beach treks, and guided tours of a sea turtle hospital, all designed to engage students with hands-on experiences aligned to Florida’s Science Standards.

Build your experience by choosing between a 1.5 hour, or a 2-hour program for your students.

Description of each activity

Pelagic Problem Solvers Lab- In this hands-on lab experience, students will learn about the impact that humans have on the environment through a water filtration lab examining microplastics and microfibers.

Squid Dissection Lab- Students will be able to learn about squid species. After the presentation, students will be able to dissect an inshore squid species that can be found in the water here in Florida.

Biodiversity Beach Trek- Students will learn on a beach trek about barrier islands, tides, and why our beaches are so important for the animals that live and nest there.

Coastal Trek Field Guide Experience- Students will adventure into the Juno dune coastal ecosystem and be immersed in the flora and fauna found there. Students will learn about the importance of a field guide and create their own from their observations on the hike.

Guided Tour- Students will have a guided experience through our outdoor sea turtle hospital and get the chance to investigate sea turtle biofacts. Students will learn about our current patients and why they are in the hospital and some methods that we are using to help the sea turtle become healthy enough to be released back into the wild.

About

Please note, field trips are educator-led lessons held in a classroom setting, laboratory setting or out in the field. All lessons are aligned to Florida’s State Academic Standards for Science. We have now a guided tour option of our Outdoor Sea Turtle Hospital. The guided tour does not include the Ecosystem Terrace and One Ocean Hall. If you do not choose the guided tour option, you can still self-guide with your group after your Field Trip.

Cost: 1.5-hour program - $15 per student 2-hour program - $25 per student Teacher's - Free Non-Teacher Chaperones - $5 per adult

Capacity: Max 60 students

Minimum 10 students required.

We require there be 1 chaperone/teacher to every 10 students. There will be a fee of $100 associated the day of the field trip if there is not the proper amount of chaperones/teachers per students.

Carry a water bottle as activities can involve physical movement under the sun.

Respect Wildlife and Staff Instructions

Follow all guidelines when visiting the sea turtle hospital to ensure the animals’ wellbeing and safety.
