The morning begins on a shaded street in Tulum as travelers gather at the Super Aki market gate, the humid air already carrying the tang of sea and jungle. By bus you slice inland — limestone cliffs give way to broad lowland jungle, and the coast’s surf seems to watch as you pass. At Tulum ruins, the stone walls stand above the Caribbean like a compact chapter of Mayan coastal life, gulls circling the cliffs and the breeze nudging salt into the masonry.
