You step off the road into a light that feels different — thinner, brighter — as the tour drives north from Addis Ababa toward the high plateaus. In five days you move between eras: the fast pulse of Ethiopia’s capital, the lake-slick calm of Bahir Dar, the fortress-lined streets of Gondar, and the ragged ridgelines of the Simien Mountains National Park.
moderate.
5 days.
Suitable for travelers with moderate fitness; be prepared for several hours of walking at altitude and some steep sections.
Yes — the Simien Mountains reach high elevations; take it easy, hydrate, and tell your guide about any health issues.
The itinerary notes park entrance and a ranger are included, but carry small cash for tips and incidental fees.
Short to moderate walks with uneven terrain; no technical climbing, but expect elevation gain and rough paths.
Ethiopian birr is recommended for local purchases; larger hotels accept cards but small vendors typically do not.
Gondar served as Ethiopia’s imperial capital in the 17th century, leaving a cluster of castles and churches; Lake Tana hosts monasteries dating back many centuries.
Simien Mountains National Park is a UNESCO site with ongoing efforts to balance tourism and pastoral livelihoods; stay on trails and respect grazing zones to reduce impact.
