You step out of the vehicle to the raw sound of the Nile compressing into a slit of white water — the river seems to dare you forward. At the Top of the Falls the Nile is a concentrated, angry pulse; downstream a calmer ribbon laps at hippo-lined banks while acacia and scrub fold into the distance. The trip moves from woodland plains of Murchison Falls National Park to the bustle of Jinja where the Nile begins its long journey to the Mediterranean.
