A headlamp beam threads through cold, thin air as the party leaves Mintos Hut before 2am—stone ridges silhouette against an equatorial sky freckled with stars. The Chogoria route climbs out of rainforest, through giant heather, then onto alpine slabs and moraine where glaciers once gouged the rock. By dawn Point Lenana’s jagged skyline rewards the climb with panoramic views across valleys and the distant Rift.
